TWA's Education Support Program

Tibetan educationTWA’s primary responsibility is to call for global vigilance and exert international pressure on the critical human rights situation in Chinese occupied Tibet, in particular, voicing the concerns of Tibetan women. TWA initiates social and political activism aimed at the preservation of Tibetan culture, religion and the traditional identity of the Tibetan people. TWA serves the whole Tibetan community with activities addressing cultural issues, educational needs for women, social welfare projects, the environment, and the political participation and social empowerment of women.

Education being the most crucial aspect of any empowerment, TWA makes sure that its people are properly looked after and educated.
Under the guidance of His Holiness the Dalai Lama, education has become a primary focus and responsibility of Tibetans living in exile. A literate and informed society is vital when it comes to Tibet's struggle for freedom. Educational development is, therefore, a major concern of the Tibetan Women's Association and all of its regional branch offices.
At present TWA provides scholarships for many Tibetan primary school children to attend secondary school. TWA also provides increasing number of sponsorships for young girls to pursue higher tertiary studies. TWA, as well as TACTIC, hopes this will encourage more students to realize their full academic potential.
With the lack of Tibetan women attaining higher roles in the Tibetan community, TWA and TACTIC are advocating for more sponsors to endorse young Tibetan women in trying to gain the best education possible. Though Tibetan women are able to attend basic schooling at TCV (Tibetan Children’s Village) or TTS (Tibetan Transit School), Tibetans are not Indian citizens; thus, the chance for higher education is small, sponsorships are slim, and because of the old traditional values of Tibetan society and Indian ideology, boys are mainly the chosen ones to attend higher education.
For these efforts, we ask for any type of donation to help the Tibetan women stand on their feet and stand shoulder to shoulder with their male counterparts. Also, TACTIC currently has sponsorship programs set up for an individual to help give a monthly donation to a Tibetan girl and nun. This money will go towards housing, food, books and education.

TACTIC's ONGIONG PROJECTS

Our projects will include intimate coordination with grassroots organizations in efforts to expand their needs and ideas by means of proper project management. Furthermore, we will seek out those volunteers that are committed to give their time and effort in any way that suits their needs. Our first sets of projects will include the following.

JAMPLING'S WATER SUSTAINABILITY PROJECT

Over the past year, TACTIC has taken on the project to help one of a few Tibetan elder's homes in exile. Jampling Elder's Hone is located in McLeod Ganj, India. Over the past few months, TACTIC has helped the Jampling Elder's Home raise funds to install a water pipeline that offers a sustainable source of water for sanitary purposes...(click on the J.W.S.P. link for more info)

TWA'S EDUCATION FELLOWSHIP PROGRAM

To achieve this audacious initiative, the TWA must educate a new generation of Tibetan women by offering university fellowships. It is imperative to properly help fund and educate these women and supply them with the right impetus to "stand strong" and "heads-up" for present and future Tibet. However, due to the financial needs for these women to continue in the University system, TACTIC is raising funds to help sponsor the TWA's Fellowship Program.

TACTIC'S COMMUNITY AND ABROAD PROGRAMS

TACTIC believes that it is essential to break down cultural boundaries between all communities local and abroad. By advocating social awareness on issues affecting our communities, TACTIC is attempting to bring cultural relativism to the local people. However, TACTIC works on issues that encompass people around the world in hopes to unite our different cultures under its commonalities that affect so many. Whether single mothers, people with disabilities and the poor, TACTIC feels that it is essential to advocate multi-purpose fundraisers to raise awareness about local and international issues
